Book Swap
We will be collecting books for our second annual Weatherstone Book Swap! Please bring a gently used book that you would like to swap to your classroom. Students are encouraged to bring books appropriate for their grade level (i.e. 3rd grade students bring 3rd grade books). We respectfully request no faith books, preschool picture books, or adult reading material. The Book Swap will take place in the gymnasium during school hours on Tuesday, June 7th. Every student that donates a book in our book swap will receive a “new” gently used book in exchange, up to five (5) books. For more information, please see the attachment.
Open PTA Chair positions
The PTA depends on many fabulous volunteers to make a difference for the staff and students of Weatherstone Elementary School. Please consider joining our fabulous team! Unless otherwise stated, for questions contact [email protected]. The following positions are open and are in need of a chair or co-chairs to lead:
Advocacy - The goal of the local PTA advocacy committee chair is to inform the membership about education issues and North Carolina PTA legislative goals. This will be done through communication and keeping members aware of issues. The advocacy chair would also work with our currently existing Health & Wellness Committee. For more information about NCPTA advocacy, please visit http://ncpta.org/index.php/advocacy/
Box Tops- Did you know that each school can earn up to $20,000 each year through the Box Tops program? We are seeking a chair to manage and coordinate our Box Tops spring and fall submissions. Over the last two years we have had box tops clipping socials to help with the preparation of these submissions (they have to be bundled and expiration dates checked), but all ideas are welcome! For Box Tops FAQ, please visit here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/about/FAQ
Cultural Arts Co-chair/Trainee - We are seeking a co-chair/trainee that will be trained to lead the 2017-2018 school year. The Artists in Schools program is a partnership between the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County, WCPSS, and local schools. For more than 30 years, the AIS program has placed professional artists in public, private, and charter schools in Wake County. These artists and arts organizations work as creative educational resources with faculty students, and cultural arts representatives to implement curriculum-based arts in education programs. We have had many exciting artists visit Weatherstone Elementary through this program, so it is a wonderful way to help engage and expose the kids to many forms of art! For more information, please contact Catherine at [email protected].
Membership- The membership chair will be responsible for building our PTA membership base at the start of the school year with a theme, membership drive for parents & staff, and they will be responsible for entering membership info into the NCPTA database, printing/distributing membership cards, as well as keeping a current roster. Because membership dues are involved, writing up membership deposits for the Treasurer are required, and these need to be done on campus often during the first few months of school. This position would be best for a stay at home parent or someone with flex time because writing deposits could potentially take time.
Reflections - The PTA Reflections Art Program encourages creativity and lifelong learning while offering recognition for artistic endeavors in a specific theme in the following categories: dance, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. The chair will provide information about the Reflections program, lead the submission process for Weatherstone Elementary school, and will help plan a celebration at the end. If you love promoting the arts, this would be a perfect position for you! http://ncpta.org/index.php/programs/reflections-arts-program/
Website - Our PTA website is currently using WordPress. Our website chair would be responsible for keeping information current based on feedback from all the chairs on the PTA board.
Yearbook- Responsibilities include taking candid pictures for yearbook at school activities as well as designing yearbook with the help of the local Jostens rep. Individual class pictures are taken by Strawbridge. Order forms will need to be distributed and money collected. For questions please contact [email protected].
