R.E.A.D. @ WES Updates
As part of our yearlong push to encourage reading growth at Weatherstone our theme is R.E.A.D. @ WES (Readers Explore and Dream at Weatherstone Elementary School).
This past week students throughout the school turned in their 1st Quarter Bookmarks for a reward. This quarter students received recognition for completing their weekly reading requirements from their teachers. Students received new bookmarks to start again for the new quarter.
Keep an eye out on Twitter as we continue to post about our Global Read Aloud activities. Visit www.theglobalreadaloud.com for more information on this great worldwide event. The book for 4th and 5th graders ties nicely into the anti-bullying activities that our school has participated in, as well as Disability Awareness Month.
Volunteer Registration Reminders
As a reminder the volunteer renewal process is open through the end of October for those family members who wish to renew their volunteer status from last year. After October 30th, the volunteer application will only be open on Mondays.
If you are new to WCPSS, a volunteer application must be completed for any family member who wishes to chaperone on a field trip or who are working with students out of sight of staff members. This form must be completed on a WCPSS computer.
News from the WES PTA
Lost & Found
The chill in the air means one thing! That our students are wearing coats, jackets, scarves, & mittens in order to stay warm! But as the day warms up, many of these items are being taken off in multiple areas of the school and forgotten. As a result, our lost and found area is almost completely filled. Last year the PTA purchased a heavy duty double rolling rack, as well as another shelved rolling storage rack that handles water bottles, lunch boxes, and other loose items. These are both almost filled to capacity, and most of what is there is not labeled. Please send your children to take a peek at the lost and found area in case they aren’t even aware that something of theirs is even missing, and also please make sure you are labeling everything as well. Avery makes a very durable stick on clothing label that you can use with a permanent marker too: http://www.amazon.com/Avery-No-Iron-Clothing-Assorted-40700/dp/B00IMJ2L62/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1445561439&sr=8-1&keywords=avery+clothing+label . We need your help so that we can get these items back to your children! Please don’t forget to label and send your kids to browse lost and found!!!
PTA Reflections Due!

Volunteers Needed for the Book Fair
The Book Fair Committee is preparing for our annual Scholastic Book Fair which will run November 16 – November 20th. Volunteers are needed to help fold & staple flyers, set up the book fair, stock shelves and process book sales. Any time that you can give, whether one hour or several hours, is appreciated!
We need volunteers as early as Thursday October 29th to assemble flyers.
Sign up here to volunteer. Thanks!
All for Books
The Book Fair will be arriving soon which means it’s time for the All for Books program at WES! This program collects funds to help get books in the hands of as many Weatherstone students as possible. A donation of just $1 will help us raise funds for students at WES that can’t afford to purchase a book at the book fair. A donation slip will be sent home soon in your child’s Tuesday folder. Money collection will run November 4th – November 13th. Thank you for supporting this wonderful program!
