Weatherstone to Celebrate National Reading Month in March
Continuing to honor our reading theme this school year, Readers Explore and Dream at Weatherstone Elementary School (R.E.A.D. @ WES), we will be celebrating National Reading Month. It all begins on Monday February 29th with a Schoolwide Read-in. Students will participate in many other activities in their classrooms throughout the month as well!
Please mark your calendars for our culminating activity, the annual WES Character Book Parade on March 24th at 9:30am. Students will come to school dressed as a character from a book and parade for other classes and parents. More information about the project as it applies to your child will be sent home from your teacher in the coming weeks.
News from the WES PTA
Boosterthon 2016 Information
Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the WES Explorers Fun Run! It’ll be a 9-day program where we kick off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday March 1, 2016, families will have time to get pledges for every lap your student runs, and then we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday March 10, 2016. With our big goal to raise funds for Campus Improvements, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun. Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Big World Recess! It’s a global fitness theme all about playing with character. Donations will go toward Campus Improvements and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
March Spotlight Volunteer - Tanya West
The PTA is please to announce that our March spotlight volunteer is Tanya West. Tanya has been volunteering at WES since her kids started attending in fall of 2013. She currently has a child in Mills Park Middle, and two children (one in 4th grade and another in 2nd grade) here at Weatherstone Elementary. Tanya has been a room parent and/or a co-room parent many times. At her first year at WES, she volunteered weekly in the library. Each year, she has volunteered at the book fair and with Boosterthon. Last year, Tanya was on the PTA board as co-VP of Parent Involvement. This school year, Tanya is still on the board and is the Spotlight Volunteer Chair and volunteers at the school store every Thursday and Friday. When asked why she thinks it is important to volunteer, Tanya replied “Weatherstone was so incredibly welcoming when we moved here. I feel as though by volunteering, I am showing the teachers and staff how much we appreciate and support all that they do. I love seeing the students excitement when they see volunteers helping at their school. I want my children to see how important it is to volunteer and help make WES the wonderful place that it is, as one day they will be able to volunteer in their community and help make a difference.”
Thank you, Tanya, for all your contributions at Weatherstone Elementary School, and congratulations again on being chosen as our Spotlight Volunteer for March!
