Cardboard Needed for the Art Room
5th graders are doing a sculpture project, and they are going to be using cardboard as their medium. We have collected as much as we can around the school, but it's not enough. Please send in a box or two to Mrs. Keen in the art room!
Summer Camp Change
While summer seems far away with the recent winter weather, we know some of you have already begun thinking about summer plans for your children. We wanted to let you know that we will no longer be offering our recreational summer camp. We understand that our summer program has been well supported by our community but with plans to focus more on academic programs, we will no longer be able to offer a recreational summer camp. We wanted our school families to know as soon as possible so you can plan for your summer needs. We appreciate your continued support and please feel free to contact Mr. Chadwick if you have any questions.
We may offer other programs provided by outside companies so be on the lookout for information for them throughout the spring.
News from the WES PTA
Weatherstone Students DREAM BIG!
by Catherine Smith, Cultural Arts Chair
Be sure to ask your child about rocking out with rolypolys, eating mosquito burritos or how to sing loud, jump high and Dream Big!
This week Weatherstone student's attended a PTA-sponsored performance from award-winning singer songwriter Roger Day. His intent is to empower children to follow their dreams and to support parents in their hopes that children will make a positive impact on the world.
The 4th grade students had the opportunity to work closely with Roger for songwriting workshops. Using creative writing techniques, including developing main ideas, editing and brainstorming, they came up with some future hits (or at least we think so!)
These assemblies are made possible by PTA funds, which come from your membership and generous contributions. If you are a PTA member - THANK YOU! The PTA would also like to thank the United Arts Council for their commitment to the arts by providing grant support to Wake County schools.
February Volunteer Spotlights – Yasi Langdale and Heather Hurd
Yasi has been volunteering since her oldest (who is now in 2nd Grade) entered Kindergarten. Yasi’s youngest daughter will start Kindergarten this fall at Weatherstone! Yasi has volunteered as a room parent twice and held the position of BoxTops for Education Coordinator. Yasi co-chairs the Hospitaltiy Committee both this year and last year along with Heather. Yasi is also the Crossing Guard for Weatherstone. She truly enjoys keeping all the walkers safe as they walk to school and from school. Make sure you waive to Yasi as you drive by!
Yasi says, “Volunteering is something I really enjoy. I like being a part of the school and putting faces with names. It is nice to give back to the teachers and staff and letting them know we support them and are very thankful for them all. Volunteering makes WES a special school and makes us all feel like we are part of a wonderful community.”
Heather has volunteered at Weatherstone since her son (currently in the 2nd Grade) was in Kindergarten. She also has a daughter who will start Kindergarten in the fall at Weatherstone! Heather has volunteered in the classroom, worked as a room mom, and volunteered with the school store and the running club. Heather co-chairs the Hospitality Committee both this year and last year along with Yasi.
Heather says, “I think that spending time in the school is one of the best ways to bridge the home/school connection. It shows our kids that we care about what they do at school and it shows our teachers that we value and appreciate all they do. “
Thank you, Yasi and Heather, for all your hard work and dedication at WES!

Water and a light snack will be provided! Please bring scissors! You can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0449a5ac29a0fa7-boxtops1

WES School Improvement Team (SIT) Member Needed
Would you love to impact our school in a big way? A parent representative for the SIT team is needed. It is a one hour commitment each month (meetings are from 8-8:45). The team is in the process of writing the goals for 2016-2018, and is led by one of our Kindergarten teachers, Lori Dislodge. For more information about this volunteer opportunity please contact our current SIT parent representative, Michelle, at [email protected].
Baked Goods for Staff
It is school policy for home baked goods to not be shared by the students in the classrooms, but did you know that we can still send in baked goods or treats for the staff to enjoy in the Teacher’s Lounge? If you are ever interested in doing this, all you have to do is drop off your baked item to the main office and one of the front staff members will put it in the lounge for the staff. Please, no items that require refrigeration (they need to be able to sit on the table for the day). If you have any questions, please contact Erika at [email protected]
Harris Teeter Take Charge of Education
Harris Teeter is one of our best no-fuss fundraisers— no fuss meaning that once you sign up, Harris Teeter will automatically give a small percentage of your order back to Weatherstone Elementary School. This program requires that you relink your VIC card each year starting in August. If you are a regular Harris Teeter shopper, please make sure that you are linked to WES! All you have to do is go to the customer service desk, show them your VIC card, and ask them to link you to Weatherstone Elementary School or give them our ID code of 4768. It’s that easy to make a difference! Thank you for your help in raising no-fuss funds for Weatherstone Elementary!
