Weatherstone to Celebrate National Reading Month in March
Continuing to honor our reading theme this school year, Readers Explore and Dream at Weatherstone Elementary School (R.E.A.D. @ WES), we will be celebrating National Reading Month. It all begins on Monday February 29th with a Schoolwide Read-in. Students will participate in many other activities in their classrooms throughout the month as well!
Please mark your calendars for our culminating activity, the annual WES Character Book Parade on March 24th at 9:30am. Students will come to school dressed as a character from a book and parade for other classes and parents. More information about the project as it applies to your child will be sent home from your teacher in the coming weeks.
Coming Fall of 2016 BYOD
Weatherstone Elementary will be implementing the Wake County Public School System's BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Program. We are in the process of making decisions about which students and grade levels will be involved at the initial start up. Check back with us for updates!
Our vision for BYOD at WES is that we will utilize BYOD as a tool to enhance our STEM program by providing students opportunities to become effective, collaborative communicators fostering creativity and critical thinking. It's not about the devices themselves, it's about embracing them as a tool for enhancing the great instructional practices already taking place.
Information will be posted here.
News from the WES PTA
Thanks to all of you who attended our International Festival this past Thursday evening! It was wonderful celebrating our diversity as a school together! There were so many wonderful booths that showcased a country, amazing clothing, food samples, intricate henna designs, fabulous performances by the children, food trucks, a fun parade at the end, plus much more! It was a wonderful night! A very warm thanks to the many volunteers who made this event a success, and to our chair, Kayte Thomas, for all of her dedication with making this event happen!
Boosterthon 2016 Information
Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the WES Explorers Fun Run! It’ll be a 9-day program where we kick off with a Pep Rally on Tuesday March 1, 2016, families will have time to get pledges for every lap your student runs, and then we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on Thursday March 10, 2016. With our big goal to raise funds for Campus Improvements, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun. Students will also experience an amazing character theme, Big World Recess! It’s a global fitness theme all about playing with character. Donations will go toward Campus Improvements and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
