STEM Professional Development Update
This year WES staff has had the opportunity to work with Elizabeth Parry from NC State in developing lesson plans and reviewing the progress that we have made in the implementation of the Weatherstone STEM program. This professional development included a full day workshop during the beginning of the year teacher workdays and individual grade level meetings with Mr. Chadwick and Mrs. Zoller, WES STEM Coordinator, this past month. Some of the projects that our students have worked on this year has been a direct result of these meetings. These two days were funded through a partnership with the WES PTA and WCPSS Curriculum Enhancement Program (part of the WCPSS Magnet Office).
This weekend an article in the News and Observer highlighted the work of Mrs. Parry and the recognition that she just received from the White House. The announcement from the National Science Foundation can be found here. We congratulate Mrs. Parry and find ourselves very fortunate to work with many stakeholders in STEM fields right here in the Triangle.
Excused Absence Requests
Many parents have asked about excused absences for the three make-up days last week. Please note that WCPSS has provided flexibility in allowing the days be marked as excused educational absences. Typically educational absence forms need to be turned in prior to the date of the event, however we will accept them through this Friday. The form can be found on the WCPSS website here.

WES Summer Camp
Each summer Weatherstone sponsors an 8 week summer camp full of fun! The camp is run by some of the same staff that organize the Before and After School Program at the school. Students take daily field trips including bowling, swimming, playing at local parks, museums, and much more. There are weekly themes such as sports, STEM activities and even a local martial arts studio comes to visit. The cost of the camp is only $145 a week and includes every field trip with the exception of the $1 movie days and lunch. Camp runs daily from 7:00am to 6:00pm.
Please visit our website for more information. Reserve your spot soon.
News from the WES PTA
We’re excited to bring back the 9-day Boosterthon Fun Run as this year’s fundraiser. We kick off the fun, healthy, and character-building program on APRIL 21. Plus, students will be learning five ways to make their community rock with Boosterthon’s character theme Rock’n Town Live, a music festival theme all about community. Along the way, students will gather pledges for how many laps they’ll run at the Boosterthon Fun Run event, which is on April 30. Your family is invited to come out and cheer on your student! Please help our school by connecting your student with sponsors. Thank you for your support!
