STEM Expo
Please make plans to join us for Weatherstone’s 4th Annual STEM Expo, this Saturday, April 16th from 10:00AM – 2:00PM. This will be a fun-filled day to explore Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) through fun and educational activities. They will be designed around STEM based themes with interactive exhibits with our WES staff and local organizations. We will also have food trucks, raffle baskets, and a silent auction.
If you pre-ordered a STEM Expo T-Shirt, it will be sent home as soon as they arrive at school.
Original Works Art Projects
This year Weatherstone is participating in the Original Works art fundraiser. Information packets are being sent home this week.
Students may use ANY artwork they have created (this year, or previous years) that is 8.5 x 11 inches, the same size as notebook/printer paper. Students can do this three different ways-
1. Choose a piece of work that they have created in Art that fits the size requirement- most art has been sent home already.
2. Create a piece of art at home.
3. Create a piece of art in the classroom.
For the second and third options, Mrs. Keen can provide the paper, if needed.
Transportation Reminders
Please help your child’s teacher by providing him or her with clear directions for leaving school when there are changes to the normal routine. The easiest way to make sure that your child arrives home safety and on time is with a written note or email.
We ask that you keep your mode of transportation home as consistent as possible. We understand that changes do happen and we ask that they be called in to the office prior to 3:00pm. After that time it can be very difficult to reach teachers as they have many responsibilities at the end of the day.
Carpool families please utilize the entrance of the school near the media center for both the am and pm times. The bus loop should never be used to drop or pick up students during carpool times. Also, students should never be dropped off near the cafeteria to walk down the fire lane. This drop-off location is only used by our Special Transportation providers and preschool families and no other cars should drive down this lane.
Carpool students may be dropped off no sooner that 8:45am and should be in their classroom no later than 9:15am. If you and your child arrive after 9:15am, the student will need to be signed into the office by an adult. Carpool ends at approximately 4:10pm every day. If you arrive after this time you will need to come into the office and sign your child out. If families are consistently arriving late, a letter from the office is sent home and families are encouraged to sign up for an after-school program.
Please refer to our WES Handbook found here for a complete list of procedures.

Weatherstone Welcomes Writer-in-residence - Kelly Starling Lyons
Over the next 2 weeks, April 11th-21st, Weatherstone will host book author Kelly Starling Lyons, as our writer-in-residence. Kelly Starling Lyons is a writer and a teaching artist, helping children see the value in their own stories and giving them the tools to share their stores with an audience.
She will be working with the third graders to draft, revise and peer review a story about an event or circumstance that challenged them in some way. Through writing and discussion, students learn how to infuse their stories with heart, meaning, cohesion, voice and sensory detail. Through lessons on revision, they gain skills in strengthening and polishing their stories and giving constructive feedback to peers. The last day features readings and a celebration of the story each has written. In addition, 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will also be introduced to the writing process by attending her multi-media performance.
The writer-in-residence program is brought to you by the PTA, Cultural Arts Program. Additional grants from the United Arts Council whose ongoing commitment help bring arts to the community.
If you are interested in purchasing her books at discounted rate, please complete the pre-order form before April 19th.
