News from the WES PTA
June Spotlight Volunteer - Kayte Thomas
by Tanya West
This is Kayte’s first year at WES. Kayte has a daughter in 4th grade and a son in 3rd grade. Kayte tries to help out with as many classroom activities as she is able to. Kayte was this year’s International Festival Chair. “It was really wonderful working with all of the families and coordinating an event to celebrate diversity. We have such a great group here and it was exciting to learn about everyone’s cultures. I hope that next year, even more families will participate!” Kayte says, “Volunteering is important because it builds a strong sense of community and provides encouragement for the next generation to give their time and talent as well.”
Thank you, Kayte, for all your hard work at WES!
Field Day was Fantastic!!!
The kids had an amazing time at Field Day! A huge amount of thanks to Mr. Mulford, Mr. Pearce, and TJ Cawley for all the planning involved, as well as to the many fabulous volunteers that made Field Day at WES so much fun for the kids! They had a blast!

Book Swap
Our book swap is this Tuesday, June 7th. This is a great opportunity for students to get “new” summer reading material! Please have your child bring a book to swap— they may swap up to 5 books. We are also accepting “extras” to provide every student with a book to take home. We respectfully ask that you don’t send in board books, faith books, or adult reading material. Thank you so much for helping make this event a success! We are still seeking volunteers to help with this event, so if you are able to help— please visit our sign up genius: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0e4aa9ad28ab9-book. The form to include with your book donation is attached to this newsletter.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found carts are loaded with all kinds of things! Please have your child check lost and found even if they don’t think they are missing something, because sometimes they are surprised to find their items! Also, if you are here for end of year celebrations, you are welcome to check out the lost and found carts too. All items remaining will be donated to charity.
Open PTA Chair positions
The PTA depends on many fabulous volunteers to make a difference for the staff and students of Weatherstone Elementary School. Please consider joining our fabulous team! Unless otherwise stated, for questions contact [email protected]. The following positions are open and are in need of a chair or co-chairs to lead:
Box Tops- Did you know that each school can earn up to $20,000 each year through the Box Tops program? We are seeking a chair to manage and coordinate our Box Tops spring and fall submissions. Over the last two years we have had box tops clipping socials to help with the preparation of these submissions (they have to be bundled and expiration dates checked), but all ideas are welcome— including classroom or grade level competitions! For Box Tops FAQ, please visit here: http://www.boxtops4education.com/about/FAQ. If you are interested, contact Erika at [email protected].
Cultural Arts Co-chair/Trainee - We are seeking a co-chair/trainee that will be trained to lead the 2017-2018 school year. The Artists in Schools program is a partnership between the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County, WCPSS, and local schools. For more than 30 years, the AIS program has placed professional artists in public, private, and charter schools in Wake County. These artists and arts organizations work as creative educational resources with faculty students, and cultural arts representatives to implement curriculum-based arts in education programs. We have had many exciting artists visit Weatherstone Elementary through this program, so it is a wonderful way to help engage and expose the kids to many forms of art! For more information, please contact Catherine at [email protected].
Go Play Save Co-Chair(s) - GoPlaySave coupon books (formerly called Citipass) will be our fall fundraiser. We are looking for an additional co-chair(s) to help with the roll-out of this fundraising event for the school. If you are interested in helping, please contact Laura Emsley at [email protected].
Membership- The membership chair will be responsible for building our PTA membership base at the start of the school year with a theme, membership drive for parents & staff, and they will be responsible for entering membership info into the NCPTA database, printing/distributing membership cards, as well as keeping a current roster. Because membership dues are involved, writing up membership deposits for the Treasurer are required, and these need to be done on campus often during the first few months of school. This position would be best for a stay at home parent or someone with flex time because writing deposits could potentially take time. If you are interested, please contact Erika at [email protected].
Website - Our PTA website is currently using WordPress. Our website chair would be responsible for keeping information current based on feedback from all the chairs on the PTA board. If you are interested, please contact Erika at [email protected]
Yearbook- Responsibilities include taking candid pictures for yearbook at school activities as well as designing yearbook with the help of the local Jostens rep. Individual class pictures are taken by Strawbridge. Order forms will need to be distributed and money collected. For questions please contact [email protected].
